01.01.2006 | AirBridge cargo and Nippon cargo airlines sign co-operation agreement between Japan and Europe

Nippon Cargo Airlines (NCA) and AirBridge Cargo have signed a co-operation agreement to share Boeing 747 cargo capacity between Japan and Europe.

Starting in January 2006, the two airlines will jointly market capacity on two 747F flights a week on the Japan-Russia-Europe route. The services will be operated through AirBridge Cargo’s new cargo hub in Krasnoyarsk, Russia.

Under the terms of the new agreement, Nippon Cargo Airlines will act as AirBridge’s general sales agent in Japan.

In order to support its activities in the region, AirBridge Cargo has appointed Mr. Katsuhiko Sagami as Director and Area Manager for Japan and Korea.

“It is a great pleasure for us to become the co-launching airline of direct services between Nagoya and Russia. Nagoya Airport has been very successful since its opening in February this year in terms of a steady increase in cargo volume as well as expanding the worldwide networks of many international airlines. This new routing will help not only automotive companies but also many other industries with production plants in the Nagoya area,” said Mr. Takuro Uchiyama, President of Nippon Cargo Airlines.

“The commencement of services to Japan with such a prestigious partner as NCA is another important milestone in the growth of AirBridge Cargo. This new venture comes about at the request of our global customer base and we are confident it will be successful. Trade between Japan and Russia is poised for rapid expansion as the Russian economy grows and Japanese and Russian manufacturers increase their co-operation as a consequence,” added Stan Wraight, Vice President of AirBridge Cargo.
